Acrylic FAQ
Q: What is the difference between cast and extruded acrylic?
A: Most acrylic sheet is manufactured by either extrusion or cell casting. The benefits to cell casting are small minimums and a higher molecular weight. This results in a slightly better chemical resistance, heat resistance and clarity. The disadvantages to cell cast is that thickness tolerance within a sheet can vary. Extruded sheets offer the user less fluctuation in thickness across sheet.
Q: What is the weight of acrylic per square foot?
A: Please see below.
1/16” (0.060”): 0.35 Lb./SF
1/8” (0.118”): .70 Lb./SF
3/16” (0.177”): 1.10 Lb./SF
¼” (0.220”): 1.35 Lb./SF
3/8” (0.354”): 2.37 Lb./SF
½” (0.472”): 3 Lb./SF
¾” (0.708”): 4.5 Lb./SF
1” (0.944”): 6 Lb./ SF
Q: Is acrylic true to thickness?
A: No, acrylic is not true to thickness. Please see below.
