Materials Used
To meet the needs of this project, we selected White 2447 acrylic sheet for the pedestals. This particular grade of acrylic is prized for its translucent properties, making it a top choice for applications requiring effective light diffusion. With the ability to transmit approximately 47% of visible light, White 2447 is ideal for light boxes, illuminated pedestals, dance floors, and backlit signage. Its glowing effect when backlit creates a soft, ambient illumination that enhances visual appeal without overpowering the display item.
For the display cases that sat on top of each pedestal, we used 1/4" clear cast acrylic. Known for its superior optical clarity and structural integrity, this material offered a pristine viewing window that protected the Timberland shoes while letting them shine from every angle. The visual contrast between the glowing white pedestal and the crystal-clear display case created a modern, elegant presentation perfectly suited for both retail and event settings.
Fabrication Process
The fabrication of these illuminated acrylic pedestals and display cases was a multi-step process requiring precision and skill. We began by cutting all the pedestal panels and display case components using our precision table saws to ensure exact dimensions. This stage laid the groundwork for seamless assembly later in the process.
Once cut, every edge was meticulously sanded by hand to remove burrs and imperfections. The pieces were then run through a buffing wheel to polish the edges, giving them a glass-like finish that complemented the clean lines of the design.
To form the display cases, we applied Sci-Grip 3 acrylic cement using a needle-tip applicator. This solvent-based adhesive chemically welds the acrylic pieces together, resulting in nearly invisible seams and a strong, durable bond. For the pedestal bases, the white translucent panels were assembled into upright rectangular columns with open bottoms, allowing for internal lighting to be added by the client. But one of the most critical steps in the process was designing how the clear display case would securely sit atop the pedestal.
To achieve this, we adhered an additional piece of 1/4" clear acrylic to the top of each pedestal. This secondary piece was cut slightly smaller than the base of the display case, creating a discreet recessed platform that held the case firmly in place. This not only provided structural support but also allowed for easy removal and replacement of the display case without shifting during use. The finished unit had a snug, professional fit that enhanced the visual cohesion of the overall design.

The finished product was striking. The white 2447 pedestals glowed with soft internal lighting, drawing attention without overwhelming the footwear on display. The clear acrylic vitrines provided a protective barrier while maintaining full product visibility.
